Coach Hayden is an alumnus of Naparima College, a prestigious boys’ secondary school located in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. The school’s football team is a dominant force in the Trinidad & Tobago Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL). Coach Hayden’s experience at this esteemed institution has undoubtedly contributed to his development in the sport.

The SSFL stands as one of the most esteemed and competitive youth football leagues within the CONCACAF region. Renowned for its rich history and exceptional organization, the SSFL has been instrumental in nurturing football talent across the nation. Notably, it has produced legendary players such as Dwight Yorke, who played for Manchester United; Russell Latapy of FC Porto and Glascow Rangers; and Shaka Hislop of Newcastle United and ESPN. These athletes, among others, formed the backbone of Trinidad & Tobago’s national team during their historic 2006 FIFA World Cup appearance.

Beyond its contribution to the national team, the SSFL has been a vital pipeline for professional leagues, including Major League Soccer (MLS) and US College Soccer, by consistently developing players who excel on international stages.

Coach Hayden’s philosophy centers on the triad of technical skills, physical fitness, and mental acuity. Emphasizing mastery of fundamental techniques through repetition, he believes in transforming weaknesses into strengths via personalized coaching. His approach includes:
  • Detailed video analysis to enhance game understanding.
  • Customized drills targeting specific skill development.
  • Mental conditioning to improve focus and resilience.
  • Nutrition and fitness programs tailored to individual needs.
  • Ball skills, physical fitness and knowledge of the game/mental preparation.
  • Dribbling, ball control, and kicking techniques.
He also works with players to specifically improve speed and their ability to read the game. He uses both, on the field drills, and video analysis to achieve these goals.
